Wound Management

Wounds can be demanding, time-consuming and costly to manage. The trend in early discharge of patients requires continuation of wound assessment and appropriate management.

The Wound Management Program at Kadlec Medical Center is qualified to assist you by providing state-of-the-art, high quality, cost effective care of acute and chronic wounds. Our program is based on scientific principles and will result in an improved rate of healing and a positive impact on patients' quality of life. Our team of trained physicians, nurses and technicians are dedicated to the management of chronic non-healing wounds including those from surgery or trauma.

A candidate for the Wound Management Program is any person who has a wound, acute or chronic, that is not showing signs of healing after two weeks, as well as patients with complicated surgical or traumatic wounds.

Wound Management Services Include:
An extensive assessment is conducted to detect factors causing delayed wound healing. We work closely with you and your physician to treat these underlying conditions.
Doppler studies are available to determine severity of vascular disease, potential for healing and need for surgical intervention.
A carefully designed wound management plan is developed using research-based protocols and algorithms. A team approach is used for complex cases integrating specialized skills and insights from a variety of disciplines.
A sensory-motor assessment is provided for all patients with diabetes. The LEAP program (Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention) focuses on early intervention and education, which can prevent infection or eventual amputation.
Compression therapy is available for patients with venous ulcers and lymphedema.
Recommendations for basic nutritional support for wound healing. A nutritionist is available for the patient with complex needs. Patient, family and caregiver education is provided.

Wound care is provided on a physician referral basis. Your physician will be asked to supply information about your wound, medications, recent lab results and any other pertinent information. An appointment can be made for you at this time. We will regularly update your physician of your progress.
